Museums
Did you know that fox farming was a major industry here in times past? Have you ever seen early ski equipment? Or old photos of Big Bear during its heyday in the roaring 20s? If you’re curious about history, head over to Big Bear Museum.
Big Bear Historical Society supports this terrific little gem of a museum dedicated to the region and its’ past. The buildings themselves are antiques. The main edifice was originally a store built by a Beverly Hills business guru in the late 1920s. Next to it you’ll find a restored cabin and a vintage mule barn moved to the site a few years ago.
Inside the museum Serrano Indian artifacts, gold mining equipment, logging tools and even a blacksmith shop tell the remarkable story of Big Bear’s growth and development.
Gung ho docents are available year round to give answer your questions and show you around. Open May to October on Saturdays from 10-4, Call (909) 585-8100
