CITY CONCIERGE TEAMS UP WITH MAMMOTH COMMUNITY
TO WELCOME BIG GROUPS BACK AGAIN Mammoth
Lakes - California: .Here come the buses! Over 20 Mammoth Lake's businesses,
tourism organizations, and the Mayor have joined hands and donated products
and services to entice the large group events back to town again.
After several years of decreased large-group business, City Concierge,
a local tourism-focused marketing firm, has developed and coordinated
the beginnings of this effort by welcoming back the first of the
corporate group guests in 2006 - Irvine, California-based global
communications leader, Broadcom Corporation - for its January 20-23
employee appreciation event. Mayor Rick Wood, along with others,
wants to make sure these folks know that they're glad Broadcom has
chosen their town for the affair. It's been a long, dry spell that
everyone involved is hoping to break.
"The parking lot at the Mountain used to have 40 tour buses
every weekend, but for the past several years, it's been more like
four tour buses per weekend. Something has to change - we want these
groups back," states Jefferson Lanz, City Concierge's Managing
Director and Mammoth Lakes Tourism and Recreation Board Commissioner.
He goes on to say that this new strategy - showing groups, like
Broadcom, a big welcome, a great time, and that we want them here
- is a way for Mammoth to encourage these groups to choose Mammoth
for their tour packages, events, and workshops. The Mayor, local
businesses, and Lanz are counting on this effort to bring both new
business from the groups, as well as return business from converting
these guests into single-family regular visitors. This translates
into increased tourism revenue for the town - something that benefits
everyone.
That's exactly why Lanz reached out to community businesses, the
Mayor, and local organizations to become involved in this new approach
with the Broadcom event. Although the corporation hosted a smaller
sub-group event through City Concierge last year, this is the first
time that the entire corporation will hold a larger employee appreciation
event together. For the 120 families coming this year, the welcoming
strategy takes the form of a "Mammoth Lakes gift bag,"
customized lodging and dining accommodations, and special pricing
discounts. Furthermore, Mayor Wood has written a personal welcoming
letter and will greet this group at a Sunday evening event. He, too,
sees this cooperative effort as a valuable opportunity to entice and
increase tourism visitation and revenue.
According to Mayor Wood, it's as a way for visitors to see that
"we're a small town with a lot of big town class, and an even
bigger heart."
The coordination efforts of City Concierge and The Village Neighborhood
Company's Ruth Harnell have rounded up a host of business and community
participants and their offerings. Local entities such as the Mammoth
Visitors Bureau, The Village's Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream outlet, the
Side Door café, Mammoth Creek Inn, Grumpys Restaurant,
Meadowlodge, Mammoth Times, Elegant Bath & Kitchen, 101 Great
Escapes, Mammoth Reservations Bureau, Footloose Sports, Mammoth
Premier Reservations, Mammoth Monthly Magazine, Mammoth Sierra Reservations,
Ski and Snowboard Valet, Mammoth Ski Museum, Access Business, and more
are involved in this endeavor. An outpouring of gifts, services, discounts,
special lodging and parking, coupons, dining, promo freebies, and other
items from these folks is intended to make these Broadcom guests feel
welcome and wanted.
And if anyone wonders just how will these 120 Broadcom families
plan to spend their weekend? With 320 people, there are many ways
to go in Mammoth. These families and couples can ski, ride, snowmobile,
bike, snowshoe, dogsled, hike, and build snowmen. Or they might
shop, sightsee, take pictures, and peruse galleries and museums.
Then after-hours, they could dine, dance, catch a show, soak in
a spa, or just snuggle with some Smores beside a fireplace. Variety
- and the scenic beauty - is one of the reasons they selected Mammoth
for their group event. Now they can add hospitality to that list.
