Sugar Pine Point, Ehrman Mansion
Come for the awesome nature, stay for a tour of the astounding Hellman-Ehrman
Mansion (also known as Pine Lodge). The park itself is one of the
few truly unspoiled older growth forests in the booming Lake Tahoe region,
and the very clear waters of the General Creek offers remarkable fishing. Swimming,
hiking and cross country skiing on marked trails are also popular. For
a good sense of the bird and animal life in the park, stop by the visitor’s
center.
A tour of the Pine Lodge mansion gives rare insight into the opulence
and glamour an industry baron like Isaias W. Hellman could afford
would demand at the turn of the century.
But “robber barons” weren't the only ones who lived
the high life in this region. For generations before them Washoe
Indians would spend their summers here, and you can still see their
bedrock mortars or grinding rocks just offshore from the Ehrman Mansion.
This is a great historic landmark that is a must see. If you're doing the drive around the lake, stop by for some history.
