Dog Sled Rides
Dog sledding is one of the most overlooked sports in Lake Tahoe, which is unfortunate because the scenery is perfect for it. There are few experiences like seeing the sapphire-blue waters of Lake Tahoe while mushing along miles of trails. There are several guides in Lake Tahoe, too, that would be happy to show you around the area!Guided tours of the Tahoe area are available from a number of different guides. Tours can last from one hour to as much as three in some cases and you’ll be able to stop at points along the trail to give the dogs a break and to give your camera a workout. Some of the finest vistas are available along the mushing trails.
There are limitations to dog sledding that visitors should be aware of
if they plan on mushing while in Lake Tahoe. First, the sleds are
not capable of carrying more than two or three people, tops. As a
general rule, the weight cap is set to about 375 to 400 pounds. You’ll
need multiple sleds if you’ve got a group larger than that.
Second, it’s a very good idea to mush only with experienced guides because they’ll have control of the dogs. Not anyone is allowed to just walk up and rent a team; the danger to yourself and to the dogs is real if you’re inexperienced. Be sure you deal only with reputable guides who treat their dogs humanely.

In addition to dog sledding, there are also trails in Lake Tahoe that are open to dog owners who want to give their family pet some exercise. There are several miles of trails in total, and passes for you and your dog are easily affordable at under $20 total.
