Snowshoeing

Who wouldn’t love to go hiking during the wintertime and just enjoy the cold crisp air?  Snow shoes are the ingenious invention that make this possible by helping to spread the user’s weight throughout the snow pack so as to not cause sinking.  Snow shoes are also a great tool when climbing since they allow you to create your own steps without slipping back down the slope.

One of the best things about snowshoeing in Lake Tahoe are the trails.  Snowshoeing trails are extensive, and often overlap with cross country trails.  This makes it possible for people who want to try another winter sport to do so easily.
But be careful. Off the groomed trails, you could run into an avalanche of complications – literally.  Here’s a source for places to learn how to snowshoe.

Find equipment at ski and snowboarding rental shops in Lake Tahoe.  All manner of winter gear and winter wear is available, and prices for rentals are usually very reasonable.

Some ski resorts have rental facilities on premises, too, so it’s even easier to get the gear you need without even having to travel into a nearby town.
It doesn't matter whether you take a tough trail or a beginner trail, snowshoes are for all ages.
And here are some places to look for groomed trails.
