Mammoth Lakes Troutstock 2008
August 28-September 1 marks the 4th annual Troutstock in Mammoth Lakes. Troutstock is an unprecedented Festival of All-Things Trout. It started four years ago so that families could experience Mammoth and especially Mammoth fishing. Today it is one of the largest fishing festivals in the Eastern Sierra. Troutstock is an event that appeals to the hard-core anglers as well as their spouses and children. All events are FREE and family-friendly (except for the tagged trout competition which requires registration). All proceeds benefit fish stocking programs in the Eastern Sierra. Lodging is best in a condo where you can have a kitchen to cook up those trout!.Events this year include a tagged trout competition with lots of cash and prizes available just for registering, live entertainment compliments of Citizen Joe, kids entertainment, a kids trout pond with free instruction and poles to borrow, kids fishing games, trout cooking and fly casting demonstrations, an arts and crafts festival in the woods, free trolley rides, and an Awards party and BBQ on Sunday night in The Village at Mammoth...all with the beautiful Eastern Sierra Mountain range as your backdrop. Thursday, August 28 - 31 is the Tagged Trout competition where you can try your luck to catch one of the prize winning trout. Starting at 5:00pm on August 31 is the Awards Ceremony and BBQ with Live Music by Citizen Joe held in Mammoth Lakes. Prizes include lots of cash in $1000 increments. Categories for prizes are Men, Women and Children with each getting a chance at $1000 if they catch a lucky tagged trout. There are also vacations, boats and other other merchandise prizes. Each year the amount of prizes... and cash grows and rumor has it that there are nearly 300 prizes, including one for someone who catches a plain (not tagged) trout!
