Event Schedule

Tuesday, August 5th  
Morning Registration and check-in for participants
•  Location: Mammoth Lakes Visitor Center /Tourism & Recreation Center
   2520 Main Street, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546
•  Time: 8:00A -9:30A
The center is located at the entrance to town before you reach the first signal. It is on the right side of Highway 203
 
Morning - Field Trip
Water Quality Monitoring –Water from the Mammoth Lakes Basin is the summit source for the landscape, wildlife, and people living from Mammoth south to San Diego.  This field trip is a short hike to the water source where you become a citizen scientist to understand the basic parameters of healthy water quality. Kids will become “scientists for a day” and will be led in games demonstrating the challenge of water conservation and quality.  
 
•            Age Group: Families (all ages)
•            Location: Buses from Town Park and Ride Lot to  Mammoth Lakes Basin
•            Time: 10am-12pm
•            Leader: Friends of the Inyo
             Cost:  Free with all packages
 
Afternoon – Field Trip
Sustainable living amongst regions – Learn the connection between nature’s resources and how the actions in Mammoth affect the ecosystem.  The region’s local native people have understood the connection for thousands of years. Adventure into nature with them and learn how they lived sustainably in a mountain environment. Kids will enjoy story time led by real Indians and get a treat learning about how native's live without some things we take for granted!

•            Location:  TBD
•            Time: 2pm-4pm
•            Leader: Native People of the Region
             Cost:  Free with all packages
 
Evening - Film
A thought provoking film enjoyable and educational for all ages watched under the night sky and in the mountain air of The Village at Mammoth. Includes a discussion of environmental issues prior to the film.
•            Age Group: Families (all ages)
•            Location:  Under the stars at The Village
•            Time: 7:30pm-9:30pm
•            Leader: Committee
             Cost:  Free with all packages


Wednesday, August 6th
Morning – Field Trip
Ambassadors of the Environment – The family will have the opportunity to see the wonder of nature and develop knowledge of and respect for the environment.  While showing how people depend on and impact the natural environment, the trip will inspire adults and youth alike to protect natural resources and to live in an environmentally responsible manner.  The goal of this trip is to empower young people with the knowledge and resources to become Ambassadors of the Environment in their communities, advocating and promoting sustainable living. Children will be designated “Ambassadors of the Environment” (with certificate and everything) after completing 3 easy and fun tasks.
•            Age Group: Families (all ages)
•            Location:  Snowcreek Meadow Preserve
•            Time: 9am-11am
•            Leader: Jean-Michel Cousteau
             Cost:  Free with all packages
 
Afternoon – Field Trip
Living Wise / Renewable Energy in an Alpine Environment -  Gain insight into energy efficiencies and find out about Mammoth’s unique energy sources. Have the opportunity to experience geothermal heat on a short walk along Mammoth’s Hot Creek by seeing the heat come from the ground.
•            Age Group: Families (all ages)
•            Location:  Mammoth Hot Creek
•            Time: 1pm-3pm
•            Leader: High Sierra Energy Foundation
             Cost:  Free with all packages
 
Evening – Cocktail party
Want to spend some one-on-one time with Jean-Michel Cousteau, environmental leaders in Mammoth and other interested festival attendees discussing issues and solutions? Join us for cocktails, appetizers and the opportunity to expand your knowledge!
•            Age Group: Families (all ages)
•            Location:  TBD
•            Time: 4:30pm-6pm
•            Leader: Committee
             Cost: Included in Mountain Package

Evening – Dinner
Enjoy an evening in the open air with food, conversation and keynote speaker Jean-Michel Cousteau who shares his experience and knowledge of the world’s various ecosystems and the important role that Mammoth’s environment plays to sustain our planet. After a dinner made just for them, the kids will embark on a nighttime nature scavenger hunt complete with prizes!
•            Age Group: Families (all ages)
•            Location:  TBD
•            Time: 6pm-8pm
•            Leader: Committee
            Cost: Included in Lake and Mountain packages
 
On going aspects that will be incorporated into each field trip
·      Forest Etiquette & Responsibility
       Guides will pass on local knowledge
·      California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights
        Credit will be given to children in accomplishing these Rights.
·      Clean up of trails, lakes, and creeks
        Trash bags on each field trip

Forest Package: Free!
- Includes all field trips for both Tuesday and Wednesday

Lake Package: $50/adult and $20/children (5-16 years old) (Free for children under 5)
- Includes all field trips for both Tuesday and Wednesday
   for the entire family
- Includes Tuesday night film and discussion
- Includes Wednesday evening dinner (plus beer and wine) with   key-note address from Jean-Michel Cousteau
 
Mountain Package: $150/adult and $25/children (5-16 years old) (Free for children under 5)
- Includes all field trips for both Tuesday and Wednesday
  for the entire family
- Includes Tuesday night film and discussion
- Includes Wednesday evening dinner (plus beer and wine)
  with key-note address from Jean-Michel Cousteau
- Includes invitation to an exclusive cocktail hour
  prior to the Wednesday evening dinner with one-on-one
  discussions with Jean-Michel Cousteau and important members
  of the Mammoth community
