Morning - Field Trip
Water Quality Monitoring –Water from the Mammoth Lakes Basin is the
summit source for the landscape, wildlife, and people living from Mammoth south
to San Diego. This field trip is a short hike to the water source where you
become a citizen scientist to understand the basic parameters of healthy water
quality. Kids will become “scientists for a day” and will be led
in games demonstrating the challenge of water conservation and quality.

Afternoon – Field Trip
Sustainable living amongst regions – Learn the connection between
nature’s
resources and how the actions in Mammoth affect the ecosystem. The region’s
local native people have understood the connection for thousands of
years. Adventure into nature with them and learn how they lived sustainably
in a mountain environment. Kids will enjoy story time led by real Indians and
get a treat learning about how native's live without some things we take for
granted!

Evening - Film
A thought provoking film enjoyable and educational for all ages watched
under the night sky and in the mountain air of The Village at Mammoth. Includes
a discussion of environmental issues prior to the film.

Wednesday, August 6th
Morning – Field Trip
Ambassadors of the Environment – The family will have the opportunity
to see the wonder of nature and develop knowledge of and respect for the environment. While
showing how people depend on and impact the natural environment, the trip will
inspire adults and youth alike to protect natural resources and to live in an environmentally
responsible manner. The goal of this trip is to empower young people with
the knowledge and resources to become Ambassadors of the Environment in their communities,
advocating and promoting sustainable living. Children will be designated “Ambassadors
of the Environment” (with certificate and everything) after completing
3 easy and fun tasks.

Afternoon – Field Trip
Living Wise / Renewable Energy in an Alpine Environment - Gain insight
into energy efficiencies and find out about Mammoth’s unique energy sources.
Have the opportunity to experience geothermal heat on a short walk along Mammoth’s
Hot Creek by seeing the heat come from the ground.

Enjoy an evening in the open air with food, conversation and keynote
speaker Jean-Michel Cousteau who shares his experience and knowledge of the

various ecosystems and the important role that Mammoth’s environment plays
to sustain our planet. After a dinner made just for them, the kids will embark
on a nighttime nature scavenger hunt complete with prizes!
