From the hometown parade down Main Street, to the Footloose Freedom Mile Run, Independence Day in Mammoth is one big party. Each year the town of Mammoth Lakes goes all out to create a 4th of July in Mammoth that is a fun family experience... and memorable. This year is no different!. 4th of July activities start on July 3 and run for 3 days with the majority of events on Saturday July 4th starting at 7:00AM with the annual Pancake Breakfast fund raiser by the Lions Club. It is followed by the Footloose Freedom Mile. The fabulous Mammoth parade starts at 11:00 AM.
The Pancake Breakfast has been a tradition for years to raise money by the Lions Club for their work with the visually impaired. The breakfast is town wide, held right on Old Mammoth Road, and it's all you can eat!. They have their grills flappin' jacks, bacon and sausage and coffee all for one low price. You can bring your friends, make friends and it is very social. Everyone is so friendly, you may even want to put your chair next to theirs on the parade route. It's something to see when a whole town sits down for breakfast.
The breakfast is followed by the Freedom Mile run sponsored by Footloose, who also sponsors City Concierge. It's a friendly one mile run starting at 9:00 AM around Mammoth and takes you around Old Mammoth right back to the parade route.. and the pancake breakfast. The Parade starts at 11:00 AM. It starts on Lake Mary Road and travels down Main Street and turns the corner at Old Mammoth Road. For best seating you'll want to take your beach chairs and get them on the curb earlier. Be prepared to get wet, as if it is hot, the fire trucks might cool you off. Yes, you may get hosed!
Mono County Arts sponsors an annual art festival and this year they will be joined by the Mammoth Marketplace. The Marketplace allows all the businesses to sell their inventory from last season and clear it away to make new. It is one of the best way to pick up new toys, at low, low prices. That goes for the wardrobe too!
The day culminates with fireworks over Crowley Lake at Sunset. Crowley is just outside of Mammoth. Please park anywhere you can, but legally. Many people go early and do a tailgate party so they can get the best viewing spots. Some are right in Crowley, some are along the side of the road (off the road please!) in the empty dirt lots, or by the power station. You can also get paid parking right at Crowley marina. The advantage... you'll hear the music timed to the fireworks if you're there which makes the experience even more grand.
A quick note, the brush is dry, please no smoking, and no personal fireworks. Please be extra careful.
In The Village at Mammoth, there will be free concerts and all kinds of things going on over the weekend 3 day weekend.
