Fall Colors Light up Mammoth

The trees change to bright reds, yellows and orange and become in full color when the night air says that Mammoth Mountain is chilling down for winter. The cooler temperatures make the trees change from green to yellow to fiery red, and when the wind begins to blow, the leaves float to the ground. It is a sight to behold, and a nice time to break away for a long 3 day "before holiday" getaway. Fishing season is still open until November 14 and depending on snow, the Mammoth ski resort opens on or near the second Thursday of November (depends on natural snow fall of course) so you can fish and ski on the same day! There is also winter fishing available in some of the Eastern Sierra streams. The best places to view fall colors are in Rock Creek and Lundy Lake, but you can go just about anywhere to see them. The Forest Service keeps a tight watch on what areas are lighting up the sky. We ask them where are the best fall colors? each year. Take your hike, go fishing, or go for a stroll where you can check out what seson number 3 is all about.
