Mammoth Ice Skating

Ice skating in Mammoth is back! Set in a beautiful outdoor facility in an alpine setting, the ice rink has a permanent home next to the Mammoth Library. There are skating sessions throughout winter run by the parks and recreation department. Session information is available by calling them at 760-934-8989 xtn 222. Sessions do change with the holidays or special weekends and of course our weather. We always recommend lots of hats, gloves and warm clothes as it is outdoors. Really!

There are plans for the ice rink to have a roof. The plans include sides that open up so you can see the Sherwin Mountains, so do show your support when you are at the rink!

The rink does provide ice skate rentals, and there is a small little snack shop. You are welcome to bring your own beverages, hot chocolate and there is a place to chill out while the kids skate.

Moms and dads come all the time too, this isn't just for the kids!

Ice Skating on Frozen Lakes

If the rink is closed, you can skate on the many frozen lakes in and around Mammoth and June Lake. During the coldest months, some of the lakes freeze hard enough for winter fun. However, we caution you to check with the Forest Service to find out if any of the lakes are suitable. They have final say on which are safe enough for activities if at all. Sorry, there is no skate rental when you skate on the lake, you have to bring your own. Hans Brinker!

PS. You may want to ask them about ice fishing while you're at it!
Call the Forest Service at 760-925-5500.
