ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS, June 2006

Even as the days warm and the snows recede during this incredible past winter, you can still hit the slopes on the Mountain. Go ahead, max out the fun, and wring out the ski season all the way to July 4th this year! But for those of you who are ready for summertime activities, Mammoth is way ahead of you with plenty of recreational, cultural, family, and sporting events to experience, such as a gondola ride to 11,000 feet, mountain biking a volcano, and dancing in a meadow. The 2006 Fishing Season is in full swing! Many of the lakes and streams at lower elevations are stocked and just waiting for that new Father's Day fishing pole to cast a worm. The Nationally famous Mammoth Mountain Motocross is happening mid-June, with events and races for the whole family. The town's big Fourth of July celebration is just around the corner, too. The hills are definitely alive with fun. So, remember to plan and book your Mammoth Lakes vacation early. Weekends are filling up fast. Trout Fishing Mammoth LakesConvict Lake Season Opener Fishing Derby
Now through - June 15

Trout season is in full swing! The entire month of May through mid-June is Convict Lake's Spring Trout Derby. Tim Alpers is stocking the lake with 3-6 pound tagged fish and anglers are currently catching 2-8 pounders. The fee is only $10 and over 60 prizes will be awarded. The tradition continues with the 39th annual Ford Mammoth Motocross again this year on the famed track, nestled beneath the spectacular Sherwin Mountains. Don't miss this exciting event that is sure to be a great time, once again, for all. Come watch, or compete with, upcoming new hopefuls and the best of the best of the dirt track world! And Sherwin's Folly fun-time club is hosting several dances, VIP dinner parties, and free family concerts throughout the Motocross event. Mammoth Mountain Bike Park & Gondola RidesMammoth Bike Park and Gondola Opening Day
Saturday, June 24

Mammoth Mountain Bike Park and Scenic Gondola Rides are scheduled to open June 24, 2006, weather permitting. Take the gondola to Mammoth's 11,053-foot summit and hop on a mountain bike to ride 85 miles of dirt single-track zigzagging over melted ski slopes, descending to the lush forests below. The scenic Panorama Gondola is even fun for the less active adventurer. Take in great views of the Minarets, Mono Lake, and 400 miles of peaks that average 12,000 feet in elevation, then either ride the Gondola or take one of several hiking trails back down.

Mammoth Lakes Fireworks Spectacular Four Days of the Fourth, Home-Town Celebrations
Saturday, July 1 - Tuesday, July 4


This year we get even bigger. There are events all over town. Starting with a Kids Carnival in Mammoth Creek Park on July 1-2, to the traditional hometown activities on July 4 which always start with the famous Lions Club Pancake Breakfast (ask for a Mickey!) Followed by the Parade, and our own Fireworks Spectacular over Crowley Lake. The Village at Mammoth is celebrating with a big bang! July 1 - 2 fun with live music, carnival booths and activities, a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream eating contest, a homemade Pie contest, a town dance, Food and Beer Garden, and fireworks on July 2.

This is the 11th Annual located at Sams Wood Site. with the great standards again this year - The Blues BBQ Friday night and the Grand Tasting and Bluesapalooza concerts all day Saturday. This year's main headliners are Robben Ford, Joe Louis Walker and other well-known blues artists.

Million Dollar Troutstock
Friday, September 1 - Monday, September 4
Try your skill, or luck, with the fishing pole this year. Any registered angler who catches a tagged trout will be automatically entered for a chance to win 1 million dollars! Plenty of other prizes awarded.
