ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS, November 2006

The big news is that the ski area is scheduled to open this coming Thursday. The groomers have been making snow since Thursday, Oct. 26. Yessss! There is nothing like the blast of snow to get excited about winter. Snowmaking is a delicate, dangerous and highly specialized process - a science, of dry air, and cocktail recipe of humidity and temperature. A temp of around 34 and a low relative humidity of around 20 percent is required. At 20 degrees Mammoth can make 1 acre foot of snow per hour. According to Clifford Mann, director of snowmaking at MMSA, "We generally would want at least a 6 to 10 inch base of snow (manmade or natural) on a given run in order to open it - depending on each run's unique terrain and steepness." Sounds like a good way to get some early season runs in before the crowds hit.

Speaking of crowds, If you haven't booked your Christmas week lodging, you better get off your butt! If you're thinking about Christmas, you gotta hurry. The week starting 12/26 only has small units left, but the week before, at the moment, have good availability, but remember as years gone by.. you snooze, you get the small units. This year we can also decorate the inside of your condo to make it a very special Holiday. In conjunction with Blooms and Brides, you can have your Christmas Condo professionally decorated, but please book this service early since everything is hand made. The New Years Eve happenings are coming real soon, so watch our website. Call us for your lodging reservations at 866-864-6444 xtn. #1. So When Ya Driving Up?
