tahoe mapeHelpful GuideTahoe Area Map In the north is Squaw Valley ski resort in the city of Olympic Valley, just south in Tahoe City is Alpine Meadows and Homewood ski resorts. Northstar, a more plush and posh ski area is in the city of Truckee. You could easily stay in either city and drive from one to the other. They are only about 20 minutes apart. Tahoe Vista and Kings Beach are right along the shoreline with many lower cost motels and lodges. They are also about 20 minutes to Northstar, further to Squaw. Diamond Peak and Mt. Rose are in the city of Incline Village, Nevada. There is only one hotel in Incline Village, the Lake Tahoe Hyatt Regency, but several lower cost hotels in Crystal Bay which is actually closer. The airport, in Reno is to the north of Northstar and the north shore by about 45 minutes away. Heavenly Valley sits on the border of South Lake Tahoe California and Stateline Nevada. The dividing border goes right down the middle of the city. "Downtown Heavenly Valley" is where the gondola from Heavenly Valley comes into, and it too is right on the border. Choose a hotel in Nevada if you are fond of gambling in the casinos and want headline entertainment in the showrooms. Los Angeles is an 8 hour drive to South Lake Tahoe.
