Staying In MammothWhether you come in winter for the alpine skiing, snowboarding or cross country trails or in summer for the fishing, hiking and mountain biking you're going to love Mammoth. As a four season resort, you will want to take advantage of the free shuttles that run throughout town. In the winter, it is always a good idea to stay at a hotel that is right on the shuttle route. This gives the convenience of leaving your car parked, while it gets buried in our fabulous snow. Just step outside the lobby and hop on. After the first day, of fun on the hill, get an overnight locker so you don't have to carry your gear on the bus. When you leave town, drive up to the ski lodge to gather your belongings. This is the City Concierge way so you don't have to schlep your ski gear.In summertime, it doesn't make a bit of difference where you stay! The shuttles run a different route, and they will get you where you need to go. Having the restaurants and bars just outside your door makes the hotels in Mammoth very convenient. Guest often stay in the Mammoth Village so they have the convenience of the restaurants below their rooms. The other popular location is on Old Mammoth Road near restaurant row. If you are coming from the North, you will drive right by Yosemite National Park, the east side entrance. You may want to take a day and a night to see the park, stay a night in a Yosemite National Park Hotel and then head on down to Mammoth, which would only be 45 minutes from the entrance. The Yosemite entrance is in this very small town called Lee Vining which is famous for Mono Lake, which is a great day trip from Mammoth. If you want to stay in Lee Vining you can get a "rustic motel" as Lee Vining hotels are all from the cowboy era. South of Mammoth is one of the larger towns along Highway 395, Bishop California. Bishop also has the most enjoyable Memorial Day celebration called Mule Days. If you are on a fly and drive package and landing at Los Angeles International airport (LAX), you may want to stay the night before you drive.
