MAMMOTH ICE SKATING

The
Mammoth Lakes Ice Rink is back this year 2007. It was a beautiful
outdoor facility in an Alpine setting. The new rink gets a roof! The
old outdoor Mammoth Ice Rink has a new permanent home. Next to the
new Mammoth Library, the ice rink will have a long life. When completed,
the rink will have an open to the air room, lights for night skating,
a permanent Zamboni machine, (thank you Mr. Zamboni who lives in Mammoth!)
and will be used for ice in winter and inline skates in the summer.
The
rinks new roof sits on pillars but the sides are completely open
so the gorgeous view of the Sherwin Mountains is not obstructed.
The rink also has removable side panels for those days... no one
wants to go outside!.
If
you're looking for an ice skating rink, the rink will open for the
Christmas 2007 season and plans to operate up to Spring Break. The
Parks and Recreation department is also planning and organizing hockey
leagues. Hopefully Gretzky will come and coach. .
For session information, call the Parks and Rec department at 760-934-8989

You can also skate on the many frozen lakes in and around
Mammoth and June. During the coldest months, some of the lakes freeze
hard enough for winter fun. However, we caution you to check with the
Forest Service to find out if any of the lakes are suitable. They
have final say on which are safe enough for activities if at all.
They can be reached at 760-925-5500.
