Things to do in Lake Tahoe in Fall

Lodging in Lake Tahoe Fall is a great time to plan a getaway and take a Tahoe Vacation. Generally the weather is warm enough for a sun tan yet cool enough for the trees to change. While everyone is worrying about back to school, and upcoming holidays, visiting in autumn is a great time to kick back after summer, feel the breeze and enjoy the outdoors. There are plenty of things to do in Lake Tahoe in Autumn

You might want to first decide whether you would like to stay in the north where it is more lush with trees turning colors and the Truckee river flowing right through Tahoe City. Or stay in the south where there is more shopping, restaurants and entertainment in the casinos. Lake Tahoe lodging offers so many choices, there is no need to congregate near the ski resorts as they are not necessarily the hub of activity. Northstar for example converts their winter ice rink, to a rollerblading rink in summer, and they show movies in the same space at night!

During the fall, biking and mountain biking on both shores is extremely popular and if you are a die hard, you will want to find a place near one of the popular trail heads. You should also consider making your during autumn near our famous food and wine festival which is an annual event. We have even had winners of TV's "Top Chef" come and cook. Paddling on the water is popular all year round, even when the water is chilly, but hey, a nice beach walk is good anytime of the year.

Guest often want trips to South Lake Tahoe because they want the "Las Vegas" experience, but not the crowds and hoopla. The main boulevard is just lined with casinos, restaurants, shops and no mater where you stay, getting a South Lake Tahoe rental will put you in the action. You will want to get either a hotel room in one of the larger casinos, or stay in a nice vacation home with a view of the lake. We like the lake idea!

There are 10 golf courses in Lake Tahoe and we like the one in Incline Village but I hear Squaw Creek is pretty spectacular. (Sorry not a golfer!) In total, \there are 39 golf course in the High Sierra and you know the ball flies further at altitude. There is also the tram at Squaw Valley and the Gondola at Heavenly Valley which both give spectacular views. The kids love to ride them and the photo ops are great. There is also the good old hike in the forest on one of the 100 trails around. There is also horseback riding for those of you who like to put a little western on.

Before you go out, be sure to check out our Lake Tahoe dining guide to get a list of all the best restaurants in Tahoe. We're growing our list of menus so you will want to keep coming back as we get them.

There is so much to do in autumn, why wait for a holiday to stroll around? Let us help you plan your reservation in Lake Tahoe now. Let's see what's available...
