Tamarack Lodge in Mammoth takes you back to bygone days of Old Mammoth. With its old rustic log cabin appeal, most of the cabins have been updated. These are little cabins by the lakes with many features you might find in a larger vacation rental home. The old rustic cabins have been rebuilt with lodging that is part Mission style and part mountain style. When people think of cabins by the lake in Mammoth, this is what they are referring to, unfortunately there are only a few and they book quickly during popular times and they are not inexpensive. Located right across the street from Twin Lakes, a fisherman's haven and next to the Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center, Tamarack lodge is tucked away from pretty much everything. If you're looking for an experience in Mammoth Lakes, where nature and man can interact together, this is it.
The newer rooms are spacious, the older rooms are smaller and during snowy months, you will be walking through the snow to get to the lodge as all the cabins are detached from the main building. The newer rooms are what you are after as they have great fireplaces, cozy bedrooms and bathrooms and are a great retreat. Most of the time the walkways are not plowed, but this is the charm of a cabin in the snow. In summer, you will really feel as though you are renting a "cabin by the lake" as they are just across the road. In the winter, after your skiing, you'll want to just sit by the fire, drink wine, and relax. That is what this place is made for. The shuttle buses do run during ski hours, but otherwise you'll be taking a taxi or driving.
This hotel also features one of the most elegant restaurants "Lakefront" created by former chef Frederic Pierrel who is now the Chef du Cuisine at The Brassiere. (A great place!) Because of the petite size of the restaurant, guest of the lodge have first crack at the dining rooms. The wine list is really special and many of Chef Fred's entrees remain on the menu. The view from the Lakefront Restraunt is well... named appropriately.
Relax in the historic Mountain Lodge with a warm cup of freshly brewed coffee or our warm mulled wine. Enjoy an intimate and unique dinner of French cuisine at Lakefront Restaurant. Advanced reservations are required. Step right out your front door for easy access to Twin Lakes-one of the many located near the resort. In winter have ski-in/ski-out access to the Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center and its 30 km of world-class groomed trails-beautiful scenery and an Olympic medalist who serves as instructor and guide. Relax and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. In summer Tamarack offers rowboats/canoe rentals and some of the best fishing in the eastern sierra. Distance to Canyon Lodge is approx. 3 miles. Dogs are accepted during the summer months -Mid April to Mid Nov-30 dollars / night / dog.
